Fried Calamari (Squid rings) - A Mothers day special



Ingredients:
Calamari rings - 1 1/2 lbs
Butter Milk - 2 cups
Hot sauce - 1 tsp
All Purpose Flour - 1 cup
Cornmeal - 1/2 cup
Red chili pepper flakes - 1 tsp (optional)
Black pepper powder- 2 tsp
Salt
Oil


Preparation:
Stir buttermilk and hot sauce together in a large bowl.
Soak calamari in buttermilk mixture for 20 to 30 minutes. 
Combine flour, cornmeal,red chili flakes, black pepper powder and salt in another bowl. 
Remove the calamari from the buttermilk mixture and toss in the flour mixture to coat completely. 
Heat the oil in a deep pan. When its hot,carefully add the calamari, in batches, to the hot oil and fry until coating is crisp and golden.
Do not over-crowd the pan when frying. Remove to paper towels to drain. 
Serve immediately with the Marinara Sauce.


Note: I added this red chili flaked for additional heat. We just love this dish. On the side I burnt my hand :(
